Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows elsewhere in the pelvis. It can cause painful periods, pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, bowel or bladder symptoms, fatigue and difficulty conceiving. Assessment begins with a careful history and examination, supported where appropriate by ultrasound or MRI. Treatment is tailored to your symptoms, imaging, previous treatments and long-term goals, and may be medical, conservative or surgical.
